Bad luck has plagued the Gantt Racing Team all year and Saturday night was no exception.
Ashley started the first heat from the second row and pushed the field exceptionally hard. She spun in turn 2 on lap 4 and had to quickly exit the car when a fire briefly erupted from the car. It was later learned that the brakes had failed on the car. Amazingly, she was able to put the car into the infield instead of flying over the outside embankment/
Willis started the second heat on the outside of row 2. After settling into the 2nd position, he started having handling problems in turns 3 and 4. He battled the car and was able to end up in 3rd.
Ashley was able to start the main and Willis was lined up in row 2. The lineup looked favorable for Willis to move up and was able to move into 2nd when the green flag was waved. After a few laps, Willis was able to briefly shoot into the lead, but the 1 of Jason Tanner took it back when Willis went high. The 31 of Bruce Martin joined the fight and worked his way past both for the lead. The 59 of Charlie Wilson tried to go under Willis in turn 1 and made contact with Willis causing him to spin. Willis was sent to the rear and could only force his way up to a 7th place finish. Ashley had the unfortunate task of having to start from the back row and had to chase the field all night. She reeled in the 55 of Dean Olson from Colorado and the 2 cars battled for quite a few laps. She was able to pass him, but lost the spot when the leaders came past her. She ended up in 9th place.
The Gantt Racing team will be in action next week at Sandia Speedway
